Entre Oriente y Occidente: Los Coloquios de García de Orta y la Circulación del Conocimiento Médico en el Siglo XVI (2013)


In this article the importance of Colloquia on simple medicines and drugs in India is analyzed [Colloquia you da Índia simple and drugs] (Goa, 1563) of Garcia de Orta in the construction and movement of medical and botanical knowledge in Asia in the sixteenth century. It begins by examining the importance of combined experience and testimony in evaluating Orta on materia medica of India. Then the importance of interaction and exchange of medical systems between East and West in the understanding of the Portuguese doctor about medical knowledge and practice is examined. Finally, we analyze how the medical and botanical featuring this work was reformulated by Carolus Clusius and distributed in a new way in Europe.
