Estudios sobre De Materia Medica de Dioscórides en la Era Islámica (2013)

unapi

Pedanius Dioscorides was a surgeon in the Roman army in the first century AD His great work called De Materia Medica is known as the main source of Pharmacopoeia of antiquity. Dioscorides was the inventor of the materia medica, and used his extensive travels to devote himself to the study of plants. Dioscorides was considered an authority on the subject of drugs of natural origin over sixteen centuries. De Materia Medica served as a cornerstone for pharmaceutical and herbal texts in both West and East and was translated into Syriac, Arabic and Persian, besides Latin. The particular feature of medical therapy in medieval times was the extensive use of all drugs. For this reason, in addition to careful scrutiny, De Materia Medica of Dioscorides also became a textbook frequently referring to the Turkish-Islamic scientists in their writings.
