Tito Vignoli (1824-1914) was one of the protagonists of the Italian positivist season along with figures such as Cesare Lombroso and Paolo Mantegazza. Thinker by many interests, he was a psychologist, anthropologist, philosopher, historian of religions and among the first to embrace the Darwinian theory of evolution. His reflection is the result of a fruitful fusion between the human sciences and natural sciences, as evidenced by his major work, Science and Myth (1879). Well integrated into the cultural circuit of the time, after death, however, was soon forgotten. Today it is best known for its influence on the founder of the studies Iconographical Aby Warburg. This monograph, the first devoted entirely to Vignoli, returns to the depth profile of the author, focusing on one aspect that has marked across its entire reflection: the psychological and anthropological research on the nature of post-Darwinian. Through extensive archival research, the book sheds light on the long reasoning of a thinker than full positivism liked to call "the most positive of the positivists." Rediscovering Vignoli allows you to reread the cultural ferment of the century from a new perspective, highlighting the complexity. Pensatore dai numerosi interessi, fu psicologo, antropologo, filosofo, storico delle religioni e tra i primi ad abbracciare la teoria dell'evoluzione di Darwin. La sua riflessione è frutto di una feconda contaminazione tra scienze umane e scienze naturali, come dimostra la sua opera principale, Mito e scienza (1879). Ben inserito nel circuito culturale dell'epoca, dopo la morte fu però presto dimenticato. Oggi è noto soprattutto per l'influenza esercitata sul fondatore degli studi iconologici Aby Warburg. Questa monografia, la prima interamente dedicata a Vignoli, restituisce profondità al profilo dell'autore, concentrandosi su un aspetto che ha segnato trasversalmente tutta la sua riflessione: l'indagine antropologica e psicologica sulla natura dell'uomo post-darwiniano. Grazie a vaste ricerche d'archivio, il volume fa luce sul lungo ragionamento di un pensatore che in pieno positivismo amava definirsi “più positivo dei positivisti”. Riscoprire Vignoli permette di rileggere il fermento culturale di fine secolo da una prospettiva inedita, mettendone in evidenza le complessità.
