A biography of Bavarian Chancellor Johann Georg Herwart von Hohenburg, a scholar within the Republic of Letters, is presented. He was notable for his correspondence with scientific leaders including astronomer Johannes Kepler, whom he befriended and mentored. He was born in Augsburg, Germany in 1553, studied law at the University of Ingolstadt, and was appointed Chancellor in Munich, Germany in 1585 under the administration of Duke Wilhelm V of Bavaria.
