Hong, Sungook (Author)
This essay discusses the complicated and convoluted relationship between science and technology in Korea from 1945 to the present. In Korea, science and technology, both imported from the Western world at the same time, were frequently considered to be less distinct and even identical. However, for the promotion of export industries since the early 1970s, technology and engineering, rather than science, were more actively supported by the government. This rendered the relationship between science and technology to be complicated and confused in South Korea.
