During the late Qing-dynasty, the system of mathematical symbols was introduced into China through translated works by western missionaries. This has been influenced greatly on traditional Chinese representation. Chinese physics knowledge was eventually modernized through the spread and application of western mathematical symbols. The aim of this paper is mainly to compare those mathematical symbols in difference physics works translated during the late Qing-dynasty. Meanwhile, the application of western mathematical symbols in translated Chinese physics works is analyzed. The influence of the evolution of mathematical symbols on the development of Chinese physics would be revealed in this paper.
