The article discusses the late 19th century philosophical attitudes toward the sciences, with particular attention to the debate between French intellectuals Edouard Le Roy and Henri Poincar . The author describes the post-romantic values of these philosophers as ranging from irrationalism to philosophical idealism, calling them anti-positivist. Also included in the analysis are texts from French theorist Jules Soury, French writer Ferdinand Bruneti re and Polish philosopher Jerzy Giedymin. The article aims to reveal the ways in which these philosophies caused a kind of scientific bankruptcy of the time period by devaluing scientific research.
