0 alemio Wilhelm Roux (Fig. 1) nasceu em 09 de junho de 1850, em Jena, e faleceu em 15 de setembro de 1924, em Halle. Formou-se em medicina in Universidade de Jena (1877), onde teve como profes-sores Rudolf Virchow, Ernst Haeckel e Gustav Schwalbe. Como trabalho de dottharamento, fez pesquisas sabre a ramificasio de vasos sanguineos do 6gado. Trabalhou como professor in Universidade de Breslau (1879), in Universidade de Innsbruck (1889) e in Universi-dade de Halle (1895). Vol pioneiro in embriologia experimental e fundador da teoria da mecanica do desenvolvimento (Enftviekholgsme-ebanik). Propos a teoria do mosaico da epigenese: apes poucas gera-goes, as celulas embrionirias ji desempenhariam papeis difetenciados. Em 1894, fundou o primeiro periodico de embriologia experimental: Arebiv fiirEntaiekbmgmeethanik der Otgartirmm (Arquivo de mecanica do desenvolvimento dos organismos)'.
