In the Fever King's Preserves is the first full scale biography of Sir Charles Cameron, who waged a determined battle for reform of Dublin's tenements against the prevailing interests and attitudes of the 19th century. By the time of his death in 1921, the death rate in the city had been almost halved. Lydia Cameron's fine biography is a long overdue re-evaluation of one of the few who took seriously the public scandal of Dublin's tenements.
