Power, Jennifer (Author)
This is a book about community activism around HIV/AIDS in Australia, charting the role that members of the gay community have played in this nation's response to the HIV epidemic and documenting how HIV/AIDS came to be a defining issue in the history of gay and lesbian rights in Australia. The author's argument that activism contributed to improving social attitudes towards gay men and lesbians in Australia and challenged some entrenched views within the medical system is not new. However the insights provided, especially through interviews with many of the lead surviving activists, makes this a valuable addition to the public health literature on sexuality and sexual health in Australia.
