Besides the principle of natural selection, Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), brought other contributions to natural history such as his studies about colors and ornaments in animals as well as the geographical distribution of animals and plants. This paper aims to discuss Wallace's survey concerning biogeography and its results. This research led to the conclusion that, in general, firstly Wallace tried to describe the geographical distribution of species he had found, what happened in the case of Amazon, for instance. Only later he tried to explain the patterns of such distribution taking into account the anomalies he had found. Moreover, he studied a larger amount of zoological groups and published a larger amount of publications on the subject comparing to Darwin and Bates.
