Cambios y continuidades: la ecología del comportamiento y su relación con la síntesis biológica extendida (2012)

unapi

The modern evolutionary synthesis has changed biologists' theoretical, methodological and ontological assumptions since its early establishment during the mid-thirties. Although the theoretical core of the biological synthesis was mainly established by population genetics, several subject areas were involved. However, lately, some mainstays of the synthesis have been critically discussed and reconsidered. In this paper, we will analyze if the proposed theoretical modifications of the extended synthesis have any impact -- and, in that case, how- on behavioral ecology, one of the subdisciplines that has been most considered by philosophers of biology. Our main hypothesis is that the subdiscipline in question, despite all the discussion surrounding the extension, retains the theoretical aspects of the original synthesis of the late thirties and early forties. This issue makes us wonder what kind of relationship has established between the synthetic theory of evolution and behavioral ecology.
