A descrição da complexão corporal em escritos autobiográficos da Idade Moderna (2012)

unapi

Understanding the body complexion is part of self-knowledge developed in the autobiographical narratives of the modern age. Some of these texts, written in Western and Brazilian culture, are analyzed in this paper, highlighting the ways in which it presents descriptions of the individual perception of somatic complexion. In the descriptions made by the authors of the first modern age, it is common to use the theory of temperaments from humoralistic medicine. Among the sources analyzed are the autobiographies of Ignatius Loyola (sixteenth century), G. Cardano (sixteenth century), F. Panigarola (sixteenth century), M. Montaigne (sixteenth century) and G.B. Vico (seventeenth century). It is also examined autobiographical content of the Letters Indipetae produced by Jesuits in the seventeenth century.
