Chikunov, A. A. (Author)
Although others had previously attempted to write the history of the main scientific institution in Russia, the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, Petr Pekarsky (1827-1872) became the first to undertake a thorough and critical investigation, which unfortunately remained unfinished due to his death. This paper analyzes the structure of his fundamental work, its goals, its body of sources, and Pekarsky's vision of the reforms of Peter the Great and their impact on the development of science in Russia.
