M. V. Lomonosov was the likely author of an anonymous introduction to Ferdinand Gabriel Fokel's 1766 book on forests in northwestern Russia. This article describes the circumstances surrounding the evaluation of Fokel's 1752 manuscript and recommendation for its publication, discusses other anonymous publications attributed to Lomonosov, and analyses his views on the use of scientific investigations for the country's development.
