This article uses information from drinking house records to examine the evolution of the production of mead, beer, and kvass in Vyazma throughout the 17th century. The author analyzes changes in the production technology for mead and beer, as shaped by excise policies and by the influence of various economic and political factors, such as the Russo-Polish War from 1654 to 1667 and the financial crisis in the early 1660s. The essay provides data on the volume of production of beverages and resources used in their manufacture.
