The essay analyzes I. G. Voznesenskiy's scientific expedition to Russian America, Kamchatka, and the Kurile Islands from 1839 to 1849. The article describes the geography of his travels, method of financing the undertaking, his interactions with the Russian-American Company and with the native population, and scientific results of the expedition that left an appreciable imprint on the development of Russian science.
