Chauncey Wright: Theoretical Reason in a Naturalist Account of Human Consciousness (2012)

unapi

An essay is presented which discusses the pragmatic philosopher Chauncey Wright's explanation of human consciousness, which relied heavily upon the naturalist and scientist Charles Darwin's evolutionary theory, particularly on the theory of natural selection. Chauncey's use of theoretical reason to explain consciousness, including his view that humans have a reflective impulse that arises spontaneously, is discussed. The relationship between practical reason and science is also discussed.
