Reynolds, Terry S. (Author)
This thematic issue focuses on hydraulic and hydroelectric technologies in the American West. It contains three articles: Gray Fitzsimons on the struggle for control of hydro-electric power in the state of Washington, Jeffrey Hess on the needle-valve program of the Bureau of Reclamation, and James Williams on the precedent-breaking Centerville hydroelectric plant in California. Each of the three essays reflects, in its own way, how western geographic and climactic conditions influenced the technological artifacts developed or adapted to manage, control, and use water.
