Poeme electronique by Edgar Varese: Authenticity, reproduction, and mediatization (2006)

unapi

Description In 1998 a rare performance of Edgard Vare`se's Poème électroniquewas given and in the same year the complete works were released by DECCA including modern recordings of all his music and previously unpublished material. The author's experience of the performance and the contextualisation provided by the new recordings raised a number of questions concerning authenticity, reproduction and the ephemeral nature of music. It also raised questions as to how the original performances of the work, in 1958, and more contemporary reinterpretations fit within the more recent theories of liveness and mediatization.
