The article examines neuroscientists' use of color related terms when assigning names to various brain and brain cell structures, such as the mesencephalic tegmentum, the red nucleus, and the locus coeruleus. The authors then explore how these colors from neuroanatomical terminology would be understood within the traditional heraldic tincture system. They note that the red nucleus, substantia nigra, and brain white matter would respectively correspond to magnanimity, patience, and purity in heraldry.
