Bulgarian Psychiatry in the Period around World War II (1930-1950) (2006)

Few archives exist in Bulgaria so it is not possible to be certain what happened to psychiatric patients during World War II. The existing evidence shows that patients were not forcibly sterilized, nor were they killed. Very poor conditions existed, however, in psychiatric hospitals. There were chronic food, clothing, and heating shortages, but no deliberate starving of patients.
