Merkmale des ersten griechischen Himmelsglobus (2007/2008)

unapi

In this paper we take a close look at the defining characteristics of the presumed first Greek celestial globe. It is shown that one does not need to know the numerical values of both the obliquity of the ecliptic and the geographical latitude for marking the tropics and the `ever-visible' and `ever-invisible' stars on a sphere, or for working out which constellation lies on which parallel circle. It is further shown that on this early Greek celestial globe the ecliptic would not have been divided into twelve signs and the colures would pass through the middle of the constellations Aries, Cancer, the Claws and Capricorn. Such features are not seen on any of the surviving examples of antique celestial globes.
