Zur Globenvielfalt aus Weimar. Ausgewählte Produktionen des “Landes-Industrie-Comptoirs” und des “Geographischen Instituts” (2009/2010)

unapi

Evidence of terrestrial and celestial globes from the Landes-Industrie-Comptoir (State Industry Office) and the Geographisches Institut (Geographical Institute), Friedrich Justin Bertuch's (1747-1822) successful Weimar consortium, has been found dating back to the 1790s. Over the following century, various models of the earth and the skies became established on the geographical and cartographical mar- ket. These give historiographic insights into the 100-year history of this central Ger- man geographical and cartographical specialist publisher. The following study traces the tradition of globe-making in Weimar. The objective is to capture the diversity of these celestial and terrestrial globes, accessories and other innovative cartographic artefacts for posterity.
