Sphera Solida---Ein Himmelsglobustraktat und seine Bedeutung in der Astronomie des Spätmittelalters (2009/2010)

unapi

The Tractatus de sphera solida, which presumably follows an Arabic model, was composed in Latin in 1303. It is a manual for the construction and use of a celestial globe which can be mounted in a pedestal and which also has a cord mechanism enabling it to be suspended from the ceiling; the cords are marked with scales. The treatise, which was initially passed on to the universities as part of the Corpus astro- nomicum, was increasingly circulated together with other instrument-related texts and may have been the standard Latin work on celestial globes in late medieval Europe; no globes manufactured in line with these instructions have yet been found.
