This article presents some of the anatomical terms used in the 16th century by Juan Valverde de Amusco, author of the first post-Vesalian anatomical atlas in Spanish, aimed at medical practitioners who did not know Latin. The terms were taken from common language and transformed into technical terms by Valverde. Most of them did not survive as technical terms, and during later centuries reverted to the common vocabulary (determinologization), becoming in some cases archaic or disused words.
