The essay analyzes the effects of theology and religion on the development of medieval natural philosophy, with a subsequent emphasis on the relationship between imagination, reason, and natural philosophic study during this time period. A history of the subject is provided beginning with Aristotle's work. The Catholic Church's acceptance of natural philosophy as a religiously legitimate course of study is examined by the author.
