The article presents a case study on how the introduction of a medical technology for use in mammography impacted the enhancement of human skills, self-assessed competency, and ethical responsibility in clinical decision-making. The focus of the article is the introduction into the U.S. radiological field of computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) for mammography, which was initially designed in the mid-1980s to assist radiologists in the diagnosis of breast cancer.
