Pan, Yining (Author)
From the late 16th century, Jesuits such as Matteo Ricci arrived in China. In order to arouse the interest of Chinese literati in Christianity, they introduced Western mathematics to China. The Chinese literati such as LI Zhi - zao began to learn Western mathematics and tried to integrate it with traditional Chinese mathematics. Tongwen Suanzhi was compiled in this context. Based on Chinese and Western sources, the author points out that Tongwen Suanzhi comes from much more Chinese and Western mathematics books.
