The sundial is a timing apparatus in the ancient China and greatly developed in the Ming and Qing Dynasty. The research characteristic of the sundial is introduced in China in the 18th and 19th century. It includes the diversification of the kinds of sundial, the scientific construct and the popular studying and application. Its main reason for the development of the sundial is the influence of the western mathematics and astronomy as well as the lots of work for the mergence of Chinese with the western astronomy made by the Chinese researchers.
