Le Symbole des trois règnes de la nature: pour en approfondir la signification symbolique Emblème choisi par les apothicaires parisiens, le symbole du Palmier, du Serpent et des Roches rappelle que les compétences pharmaceutiques concernent les trois règnes de la Nature dont sont issus les constituants des médicaments. L'hypothèse selon laquelle Nicolas Houel fut l'initiateur de cet emblème lorsqu'il fut maître-juré de la communauté parisienne en 1556 est avancée, tandis qu'un élargissement de sa portée symbolique est recherché. L'analyse des sens symboliques associés au serpent, au palmier et au rocher, oriente vers une interprétation religieuse du symbole, dans une perspective chrétienne.
