Childbirth was an almost secret process. In 1846 the mother or the husband of the parturient was admitted and on the other hand the nurses could follow the labour with the new positions. Interference of the sense of modesty for the patients as well as for the doctors greatly changed their relationship during the nineteenth century. Some situations are presented.
