The Author presents an unedited memoir by Sebastiano Canterzani concerning vertical projectile motion. Taking his cue from a dissertation presented by d'Alembert at the Académie des Sciences in Paris, which had been inserted into the Histoire de l'Académie for the year 1771, Canterzani demonstrates that the ratio between the circular area described by the launch point in the plane of the parallel and the elliptic area described by the projectile in the diametrical plane, is equal to the cosine of the latitude. The memoir came down to us in two copies, one of which is to be found in the Historical Archives of the Academy of Sciences in Bologna, and the other one is part of the Canterzani papers of the Bologna University Library, and is the second in order of time completed with figures since it was to be published in the collection of Opuscoli scientific! of Bologna.
