The concept of the t e r m Ukrainian Medicine is examined and its histor y is summar ised.Ther e is a review of the beginnings of mo d e m medicine in the per iod 1898-1910, and its development fol lowing the First Wo r l d War . The effects of Russian influence are discussed, and progress since Ukraine's déclarat ion of independence f rom the Soviet régime is descr ibed.
