In 2008 The University of Manchester acquired an album of photographic portraits and autograph letters which had belonged to Henry Dresser (1838--1915); from around 1865 until 1910, Dresser collected mementos from correspondents and contemporaries.1 Dresser's album contains nine previously unknown letters from Alfred Russel Wallace to Dresser and his wife Eleanor Walmisley Dresser. Two date from 1871 and 1874, whereas the other seven date from 1908 and 1909 and relate to Wallace's last public lecture during the Charles Darwin centenary commemorations.
