The first anatomical studies were realized on the animal by Galen and Vesalius. In the 18th century, Bourgelat created the first vetrinary school in Lyons, then in Paris where the famous dissection of a man on a horse can be seen. The Lafosse dynasty was interested in the study of the horse and the painer Sollier created colored engravings on horses. A chair of anatomy was created to compare human and animal anatomy by the school of Jardin des Plantes in 1855.
