Analysis of a letter from Esquirol on 18 Jan 1814 to the Sous-Prefet de Foix in which he asked about the investigation of the strange behavior of an insane woman found nude in the wild of the Pyrenees. He requested he be given the skull of the insane woman, who died in prison, so that he could compare it with other skulls he collected from depressed patients. The most important aspect of the letter is showing us how Esquirol was fascinated by "l'ensauvagement"
