in 1543 Vesalius published a folio which was a summary (Epitome) of the seven Fabricae books. This work, written in Latin, is divided into 2 parts: the first includes six chapters descrtibing the human body, the second is 11 plates of anatomical drawings which can be cut up and assembled into a 3D figure. This method inserts the work into a modern coneption of anatomical learning. Vesalius gives many explanations for learning the body in dissection order. But these plates are not simple illustrations - they play an active part in knowledge acquisition just as the text does. We will draw your attention to this originality, often ignored, of the Epitome.
