In 1850 Sir Richard Owen discovered the parathyroid glands in rhinoceros. After they were discovered in humans in 1880, their history spread all along the 20th century - from simple descriptions of anatomy and clinical descriptions of illness to problems of parathyroid functioning. Once the parathyroid hormone was isolated, doctors discovered treatments for adenoma, hyperplasia and certain cancers.
