González Escrig, José Luis (Author)
This paper describes the 19th century studies of Spanish forest engineers on forest conservation, cultivation and use. A key aspect for them was to avoid disasters and erosion as the basis of the forest industry. They classified plants, studied and described their habitat, studied their use and their derivatives. They practiced botany taking into account such aspects as geographical distribution and economic exploitation, and they opposed privitzation while the Government was selling land to individuals in order to raise funds.
