Maza, Clelia Martinez (Author)
The use of ancient paganism was very frequent in the writings of the Protestant and Catholical polemiests. The setting of analogies that are referred to pagan practices comes to be employed as a useful tool to document, prove and condemn the religious opponents. The aim of this paper is to analyze Richeome's works where we find a detailed commentary on graeco-roman astrology and a very good example of these comparisons between Christianity and the religions of Late Antiquity in order to show Lutheranism as a corrupted, degraded and perverted institution.
...MoreDescription On the effort in Catholic polemics (in particular of Jesuit Louis Richeome) to associate Lutheranism with paganism by linking it to Greco-Roman astrology.
