The History of Crofton Pumping Station on the Kennet and Avon Canal (2007)

Crofton pumping station is about 9.6 km (six miles) from Marlborough and supplies water to the summit level of the Kennet and Avon Canal. Today it houses two beam pumping engines, one of which was manufactured by Boulton and Watt.1 This paper records the history of the pumping station from its inception to the end of its life in commercial ownership.
