There comes the new period of studying and making Chinese bronze chime bells after Qing dynasty. It could be divided into three stages based on the substantial historical facts and literatures. It is the first stage before 1950's. Scholars did not limited their studies on Chinese bronze chime bells within the range of epigraphy any longer, and they began to apply new methods to research on Chinese bronze chime-bells. The period from 1950's to the later middle of 1980's is the second stage. In 1978, the discovery of the bronze chime-bells of Marquis Yi of Zeng in Suixian, Hubei province caused a sensation in home and abroad. Afterwards, Tan Weisi and Hua Jueming took charge of the Group of Reproduce and Research of the chime bells of Marquis Yi of Zeng. The main works of the Group brought a climax of studying chime bells. It is the third stage after the later middle of 1980's. With the new discoveries of ancient Chinese bronze chime bells, more materials and sources about Chinese chime bells go into the reach of scholars than before, which provide scholars a better ground for researching on Chinese bronze chime bells. And more deep and systematic studies on Chinese chime bells begin to emerge, while the make and application of chime bells become more popular since the beginning of this stage.
