Geophysicist Frank Press was director of Caltech's Seismological Laboratory from 1957 to 1965. In this interview, he recalls his work with Maurice Ewing at Columbiarsquos Lamont Geological Observatory; his directorship of Caltechrsquos Seismological Laboratory and colleagues Charles Richter, Beno Gutenberg, and Hugo Benioff; his work on the free oscillations of the earth; and his part in establishing the worldwide network of seismographs for the detection of nuclear weapons testing. Frank Press - Caltech - seismology - geophysics - Robert P. Sharp - Charles Richter - Beno Gutenberg - Hugo Benioff - Maurice Ewing - Lamont Observatory - earthquakes - nuclear weapons testing
...MoreDescription Based on Caltech Archives' Oral History Project 1983 interview. Includes discussion of Press's time as director of Caltech's Seismological Laboratory.
