Using literature from both China and Korea, the present article deals with the background of the discussion about mathematical problems between Chinese scholars He Guozhu and Korean mathematician Hong Chngha(1684~?) in 1713. The discussion is studied through considering the fact that He Guozhu was sent to the boundary between China and Korea to measure altitudes and to Seoul for measuring the polar altitudes of the local place. The discussion was an episode of that He Guozhu visted Seoul. When He Guozhu stayed at hotel in Seoul Hong Chngha with his student Liu Suhsk visited him and discussed mathematical problems with him.
