Steger, Florian (Author)
In the GDR academic teaching and research in the field of occupational medicine at the Medical Academy of Magdeburg was first undertaken by the institute of social hygiene. A department for occupational hygiene was only officially founded in 1972 and a chair for occupational hygiene was established and staffed in 1978. Focal research areas of the department were occupational medicine for adolescents and in different fields as inland navigation or heavy machine engineering. Also secret research in the field of fire brigade took place. The Ministry of State Security of the GDR exercised influence on the department, because in 1978 they recorded the director of the department as an unofficial collaborator with the code name "Dirk Schneider". "Dirk Schneider" reported about the employees and also took measures, which extended simply reporting.
