Description Addresses the question: “Why does the U.S. government permit the use of the lie detector in so many areas, but forbid its admission into the courtroom? This paper argues that the answer to this question is fundamentally historical. I will demonstrate this by examining the career strategies of the two main promoters of lie detection between 1920 and 1950: John August Larson and Leonarde Keeler.”
