Description “In this paper I shall consider some of the ways in which Vesalius adapted and modified Galen's ideas about purposive design in the human body. My objective is not to trace stages in teleological thinking in the history of anatomy. Rather, it is to illustrate the way in which one Renaissance anatomist handled some of the philosophical ideas and rhetoric that he drew from his reading of an ancient author.”
