DeVries, Kelly R. (Author)
Description In 1563 French military surgeon Ambroise Paré corrected the tradition of treating gunshot wounds with cauterization. Although it has been believed that such a tradition was formed and developed during the late Middle Ages, the present article shows instead that “late medieval surgeons who treated gunshot wounds did so in a manner not unlike their treatment of non-gunshot wounds, without cauterization.”
