Description “The title Sciametria means `Shadow measurement'. The work does contain a good deal concerning the shadow of the earth and the shadow and penumbra of the moon, and one purpose is surely to determine the size of the shadow of the earth, for which no less than four methods are given. But there is far more, namely, the vaious relations between the distances and parallaxes of the sun and moon, the apparent diameters of the sun, the moon, the earth's shadow, the moon's shadow and penumbra, and the magnitudes of eclipses.”
